New Site just launched...

Over the past couple of days i've been working on a new logo and also a new site that is a bit more modern. I will still be keeping this site up and running as there is still quite a bit of traffic that passes through. But the new site is a bit more sleek with separate pages and a better layout.

You can go to the new site @ http://domjohn.co.uk/

Enjoy :)

Experiments with a digital pin hole camera

I've seen quite a few companies starting to make custom body caps for DSLR's etc that have been made in digital pin holes cameras. It looked like quite an easy bit of camera DIY so i thought i'd give it a go. So far the sensor is defiantly getting enough light, but having big issues with focus, obviously im not looking for a completely sharp, crisp image, but enough so that you can see the subject. Here is what i've managed to do so far, hopefully with a bit more R&D might be able to get a slightly sharper image.

Let the good times roll on...

So, just finished uni for the summer. Got some really cool bit of work lined up over the summer, and hopefully a couple of road trips etc just for fun. Which should mean that there will be more content going up over the next couple of months.
Keep an eye on here for new videos and photos and enjoy the weather.

Sunny day with a Bolex

Sunny day with a Bolex :D

First time shooting with the Clockwork Bolex. 1st impressions are that using it handheld is hard, but will hopefully give a really cool first person look to our short project. I tried to build my shoulder rig around it but the body of the Bolex weights so much and the thread sizes are different, but i think next time i would i like to spend more time setting that up.

Also as its clockwork you only have approx 21 seconds per wind, so takes have got to be quick. Apart from that we didn't really have any problems, just making sure you set up the light meter correctly etc. as you can only a 3rd of the light through the viewfinder, the two 3rd's goes to the shutter.

Should get the rushes back first week of may so it will be interesting to see what we get out of the camera. Crossing my fingers it works.

Enjoy the sunny weather.

For one of our last 1st year projects we are shooting a 60 second film on the Bolex 16mm camera,
i've also chosen to go 4:3 ratio as well, even more retro.
